Persuasive Essay: Who Will Save You from Disaster?

“Who Will Save You from Disaster?”

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) is a Philippine national group of various government, non-government, civil sector and private sector organizations of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines that is responsible for ensuring the protection and welfare of the people during disasters or emergencies. The NDRRMC plans and leads the guiding activities in the field of communication, warning signals, emergency, transportation, evacuation, rescue, engineering, health and rehabilitation, public education and auxiliary services such as firefighting and the police in the country. Basically, the NDRRMC is responsible for keeping natural and unnatural disasters and calamities in check while protecting the citizens of our beloved country. Many people would say that perhaps the NDRRMC isn’t doing their job quiet well considering the number of casualties that happen every single day in the Philippines. Not to mention how we are ranked within the top 10 among the 181 countries in the World Risk Index. However, what they haven’t told you is that the Philippines has already gone down in rank and will continue to do so in the future with the efforts we put into keeping our especially disaster-prone country safer for its citizens as well as the cooperation of the citizens in following protocols and laws that were made with the intention of their security.

Like I’ve stated before, the NDRRMC provides the citizens of the Philippines with immediate and detailed warnings on an oncoming or possible disaster or threat whether it is near their area or not. I’m sure you’re all very familiar with this. The loud and some might even say, annoying notice of a typhoon, or an earthquake, or a tsunami approaching an area or multiple areas in the Philippines. For those of us who are outside of its coverage area, we may find it as a bit of a nuisance to have a warning alarm go off at any time a disaster may strike whether it be in the middle of the day or the middle of the night. However, for those who are in the midst of the typhoon’s path, it really does help them prepare ahead of time and even evacuate when instructed to.

Another thing that I had mentioned is that the Philippines, although still currently within the Top 10, is going down in rank in the World Risk Index meaning that it is becoming safer and less prone the danger these past few years. The Philippines which was originally ranked in the Top 2 of the World Risk Index only coming second to Vanuatu in 2014, has now come down to the 9th rank in 2020 with an incredibly large jump from 3rd rank a year before from the constant natural disasters that came upon this country.

As we all know, practice makes perfect and experience is the mother of wisdom. With every passing calamity that hit the Philippines each year, each month, each week, the NDRRMC has polished its handling techniques and evacuation protocols when dealing with these disasters. The efficiency and efficacy of the organization in its efforts to keep this country safe is ever-growing and ever-striving. The Philippine government, though it has its bad sides much as any other group or organization, is still composed of the leaders of this country and its top priority being the safety and welfare of its fellow countrymen, fellow Filipinos.

So, as I finish this essay, I must say, the NDRRMC does its upmost to uphold the rights of every Filipino in the country, upholds their safety, their comfort, and their health.

With this, I leave a quote from Gloria Macapagal Arroyo: “The power of one, if fearless and focused, is formidable, but the power of many working together is better.” Please, as the citizens of our beloved Philippines, let us work together hand in hand in order to keep our country safe.
